Serious Ensemble Zagreb presents an evening in which sound and image meet once again—this time in a more subtle, ambient, and slightly psychedelic tone. With this concert, SEZ continues to connect contemporary music with other artistic media, with the idea of creating a unique experience in which music and visual elements evolve together in real time.

At the center are harpist Veronika Ćiković and painter Petra Šabić. During the performance, visuals are created that respond to sound, but also influence the way the music develops and is perceived. The relationship is not one-directional—it constantly shifts, just like the scenography.

The stage space becomes a changing installation: between the transparent and the tangible, between the string as sound and the string as material in paintings. The boundary between instrument and image seems to completely dissolve. Prepared paintings? Does the image become an instrument? Strings as a source of sound, both on the instrument and within the paintings… but also strings as a symbol? The construction of a wall? …

Performances of compositions, mostly by Croatian composers, follow one another continuously—without pauses and without applause between pieces—in line with the idea of a unified, immersive experience. This diversity of musical and visual stimuli is unified by a single idea—an idea further connected and shaped by certain quotations, or so-called “fun facts.” As well as by the scenography, which gradually builds a wall around the harp.

What connection do the harp, paintings decorated with strings, Pink Floyd, and fun facts share? The answer awaits you at the concert, of course.

At the end of the concert, the audience is invited to come onto the stage and view the paintings created during the performance.
